Although he's billed as sitting in on this live set recorded at the Roxy
in Hollywood, Bob Weir is less audible on Kingfish's second album. That's
definitely him singing "Around And Around," athough. Some of
the original material from the first album is repeated, along with covers
like "I Hear You Knocking" and "Mule Skinner Blues,"
all done in bar band boogie style, with Dave Torbert singing, Matthew
Kelly playing harmonica, and Robbie Hoddinott handling lead guitar, while
Chris Herold keeps up a steady beat. It's pleasant enough as far as it
goes, but without the cachet of The Grateful Dead, you can't help thinking
there were hundreds of bands in the '70s that sounded just like this and
didn't have a record deal.
